Whickham Hermitage Community Garden

Whickham Hermitage Community Garden is a walled garden on the outskirts of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

After an extensive period of time, and through the magnificent efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers and experts, Whickham Hermitage Community Garden is back to its former glory. The garden has been extensively restored and renewed, and visitors can now come along and share the timeless magic of this wonderful place.

Relax in the beauty and tranquillity of greenery and lush colourful plants and flowers.
Discover artistic installations and plant life.
Step onto the wooden bridge and observe the life that abounds in the waters below.

Then soak up the atmosphere with freshly prepared hot and cold food and beverages in the newly opened Orangery Coffee House.

We also have a range of plants for sale and special events throughout the year.

Get Involved

The Garden is always in need of maintenance, so even though the major work has been completed it's still possible for ou to get involved in this community project.

Helpers need not necessarily be gardeners as we appreciate any kind of support in helping to maintain the garden, including:

-Giving advice or expertise

-Arranging events or raising funds

-Providing tools and equiptment

Please contact Dave at the garden to see how you can help
